Ernakulam: The High Court has considered the matter of distributing the welfare pension even though it has been reduced. A bench of Acting Chief Justice A. Mushtaq Muhammad and Justice S.Manu asked the government about this while considering the petition of Idukki resident Maryakutty and others regarding non-receipt of welfare pension.
The court asked this while considering the case of Idukki resident Maryakutty, who protested with a pitchfork due to non-payment of welfare pension. Maryakutty’s lawyer told the court that despite receiving the share and cess due from the Centre, the state government is not paying the arrears of welfare pension.
The last time the court heard the case, the court had asked the state government to provide information regarding the share of the central government in the welfare pension and the amount of cess and the amount paid by the state government as welfare pension. The court also directed to provide detailed information regarding these matters. The High Court said that the case will be considered again on the 30th and the government should consider giving the arrears pension even if it is reduced.
