The postmortem of Alan, who was killed in a wild elephant attack in Mundur, will be conducted today. After the postmortem, the body will be handed over to the family. His mother, Viji, who was also injured in the attack, is currently undergoing treatment at Thrissur Medical College Hospital. In protest against the incident, the CPM has called for a hartal in Mundur panchayat today. The BJP, meanwhile, will lead a march to the DFO office.
Wild elephants have been roaming around Mundur and nearby areas for the past week. It was the same herd of elephants that Alan and his mother Viji encountered yesterday. The incident occurred near Kannadanoor when they were returning home in the evening after buying groceries from a shop. Alan, who was walking ahead, was struck by an elephant with its trunk and trampled. The herd then attacked his mother as well. Despite her injuries, Viji managed to alert locals using her phone. However, Alan, who had suffered severe injuries and was bleeding profusely, died before reaching the hospital. Viji, who sustained injuries to her shoulder and the right side of her body, continues to receive treatment at Thrissur Medical College.
