Ration card mustering, food department to ask Center for more time

Thiruvananthapuram: Technical fault in e POS machine. The Food Department is about to ask the Center for more time to complete the ration card mustering in the state. If the yellow and pink card holders do not complete the mustering, the availability of goods including rice from the center will decrease.

Time was given till March 31. But due to server failure, mustering and distribution of rations was halted several times. As the ration distribution and mustering did not take place simultaneously, time was given only for mustering, but the project failed when the e-POS malfunctioned.

The state has decided to ask the Center for more time to complete the mustering. One crore 54 lakh people are yet to complete mustering in the state. So far only about 22 lakh people have completed the mustering. At present, most people have done mustering in Thiruvananthapuram district.

There is progress in mustering in Kannur and Thrissur. In all other districts, not even a third. Due to various reasons, the mustering of about sixteen thousand people was rejected. With the complete stoppage of the mustering in the background of technical failure, the government is unable to conduct the mustering within the time allowed by the Centre.
