Actress Priyamani has revealed that she has received hateful comments for marrying someone from a different religion. “I thought I could share this happy news with the audience who I believed loved me. I made a social media post about my engagement, calling it one of the happiest days of my life. But suddenly, unnecessary hate started pouring in. People accused me of ‘Love Jihad.’ Some even went to the extent of commenting that my future children would join ISIS,” Priyamani stated. She admitted that these remarks had affected her mentally.
“I am a media person, and people will always have something to say. But why attack someone you don’t even know? You don’t even know who this person is. I was just introducing my husband to you. For two to three days, it did affect me. At that time, when I was active on Facebook, I received a flood of messages,” she added.
“Even now, if I post anything with him, nine out of ten comments will be about religion. Eventually, I realized there was no point in fueling the fire. I stopped responding because I didn’t want to make those people famous. At one point, I understood that such negativity should not be given importance,” Priyamani explained.
