Speculations over Rajinikanth’s party ‘Makkal Sevai Katchi’; ‘autorickshaw’ to be party symbol

Actor Rajnikanth will not be entering politics due to health reasons

TV reports in Tamil Nadu say that Superstar Rajinikanth has registered the name “Makkal Sevai Katchi” in the Election Commission of India as his party name. In another two weeks superstar Rajinikanth will step into active politics by announcing his political party. There is a huge suspense around all over the Tamil Nadu and the state politics while Thalaivar fans are eagerly waiting for it.

According to highly placed sources, Rajini’s political party name is Makkal Sevai Katchi and an ‘Auto Rickshaw’ is likely to be the party’s election symbol. The reports are also coming out that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has received an application from the party, Makkal Sevai Katchi seeking an allotment of a common poll symbol. The ubiquitous three-wheeler popularly known only as “auto” in Tamil Nadu has a ready people’s connect since it is piloted mostly by those belonging to the working class and used by the middle class – Rajini’s target groups. The reports also added that Rajinikanth wanted Baba Mudra as the symbol to contest in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Elections but the EC is said to have allotted the auto-rickshaw symbol for the actor’s political party.

Thalaivar’s biggest hit in the 90s ‘Basha’ film has him as an auto driver and later becomes a most dreaded gangster. The auto represents a larger section of middle class people and has its own mass appeal to get popular among the people. Though it is not official yet the Election Commission has allotted the “Auto-rickshaw” symbol to a newly registered party called Makkal Sevai Katchi,  believed to be the party floated by Tamil superstar. Loosely translated the party’s name means “People Service Party” and its president’s address is given as Ernavoor, near Chennai where Rajinikanth has a farmhouse. Rajinikanth will announce the name of his party on Dec 31 this year and launch it sometime in January after the Pongal festival.
