Suspension for health inspector who paid and housed a group of guest workers in a quarantine

The state inspector of the Palakkad municipality, the state leader of the NGO Sangh, was suspended for taking money from the guest workers staying in the hotel. The action is for group accommodation of guest workers without providing quarantine facilities.

Babu Lewis, fourth division health inspector of Palakkad municipality was suspended pending an investigation. The action was taken for misleading Dr. Sajna of Dyara Street, Palakkad, and giving her a quarantine certificate and for accommodating the guest workers staying in the quarantine in hotels.

The quarantine facility is to be provided by labor contractors or importing companies to guest workers from other states. One room should be provided for one person. After paying for this, the health inspector did not provide them with a quarantine facility and accommodated them in a hotel.

Municipal chairperson Prameela Sasidharan said the action was taken after it was found that the health inspector had taken lakhs of rupees through a scam that had been going on for months. Workers in the quarantine were also found to be going to work in violation of Kovid standards. It was found that it had the tacit approval of the Health Inspector.
