West Nile Fever hits Kerala: 10 cases confirmed in Kozhikode and Malappuram

West Nile fever has been confirmed in ten people in Kozhikode and Malappuram districts. Four infected people are from Kozhikode district. The condition of the person who is being treated at a private hospital in Kozhikode is critical. The disease is spread by Culex mosquitoes. The disease is not transmitted from human to human.

The health department has warned people to be cautious in case of West Nile Fever. The symptoms are fever, headache, fatigue, dizziness, behavioral changes, seizures etc. People with weakened immune systems are more likely to catch the disease quickly.

West Nile disease was discovered by collecting blood and saliva from those who showed symptoms of the disease. Later, the disease was confirmed in a test conducted at the National Institute of Virology, Pune.
