The fourth anniversary celebrations of the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government began in Kasaragod. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurated the anniversary celebrations, which mark the beginning of a series of events aimed at showcasing the continuity of the LDF government’s governance. In his inaugural speech, the Chief Minister stated that there were many reasons for choosing Kasaragod as the starting point for the celebrations.
He began his speech by listing the government’s achievements, including the development of national highways. The Chief Minister noted that Kasaragod holds special significance — the most notable being that Comrade E.M.S. Namboodiripad, who led Kerala’s first government, was elected from the Neeleswaram constituency. He said it was a matter of great pride to inaugurate the celebrations on the same land where EMS once contested elections.
Pinarayi Vijayan said that the LDF government came to power in 2016 to put an end to an era of despair that Kerala had been enduring. The people entrusted the LDF with governance at a time when the state was in a shattered condition. People voted for a government that could modernize the state and ensure that regions like Kasaragod, which had lagged behind, also received the benefits of development seen in other areas. This mission, he said, is what the people entrusted to the LDF government.
He added that the government had to face numerous challenges while trying to fulfill this mission. Several natural disasters and deadly epidemics emerged as serious obstacles. These could have driven the state further into ruin, but Kerala survived them. The state withstood the Nipah virus, Cyclone Ockhi, the great flood of 2018, the heavy monsoon calamities of 2019, and amidst all that, the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The government overcame all these crises and continued moving forward, said Pinarayi Vijayan.
