New Delhi. The Kerala government has approached the Supreme Court seeking to restrain the central government from implementing the CAA. Kerala also asked the Supreme Court to stay the notification to bring the law into force. Kerala filed the application seeking stay in the earlier suit petition.

Kerala’s crucial move is just before the announcement of the Lok Sabha elections. The Supreme Court has announced that the petitions to stay the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act will be considered on the 19th. The demand of Kerala will be considered along with this.

And making religion the basis for granting citizenship is discriminatory. The petition says that the decision to grant citizenship only to non-Muslims from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh is not justified.
