The Kerala High Court has passed a resolution exempting advocates from wearing gowns during the summer season

Kochi: In view of the rising heat in the state, the High Court has passed a resolution barring lawyers from wearing black gowns. It is enough for lawyers to appear in district courts wearing white shirts and pants. Coat and gown are not mandatory in District Court. Black gown is not mandatory for advocates in High Court.

The plea was filed by the Kerala High Court Advocates’ Association citing difficulties in appearing in court wearing black coats and gowns during summer. Considering this, the resolution was passed by the full court. It will continue till May 31.

Summer is coming in the state. Yellow alert has been declared in 12 districts today. The weather department has issued a warning that the high temperature may continue till April 13. Sunstrokes were also reported in various districts.
