The body was laid to rest on Sunday, June 14, 2020, at Kannimala’s home in Manimala, Kottayam district. I had gone to Manimala from Thiruvananthapuram to attend the funeral that day. There was a secret rumor that Kannanthanam’s mother had died of COVID.

A BJP state general secretary had told me at the time that it was impossible for the Center to embalm the body of a man who had died of Kovid and brings him to Kerala by air. I am amazed that a person who died of COVID infection in Delhi was flown to Kerala as per COVID protocol and his body was cremated for public viewing. ‘
