The CPM branch secretary has been expelled from the Left Front-ruled Neelamperur panchayat for a year for allegedly misappropriating food grains distributed to flood victims. It is alleged that the riot was led by the panchayat vice president and branch secretary. Kainadi police have also started an investigation into the complaint of the locals.

The party took action against Neelamperur branch secretary KP Sukumaran after the missing food grains were found in his house. The incident took place in the third ward of Neelamperur panchayath. The food grains are collected and delivered to the public food distribution center for the flood victims under the leadership of the panchayat member of the respective ward.

The food grains were collected from the village office under the leadership of Prino Uthupan, a panchayat member and panchayat vice president from the third ward. But the locals questioned the shortage of food grains. With this, Prino pleaded guilty. He admitted that he had sold food items worth Rs 3,650 and handed over the amount to the convener of the food distribution center in the presence of the locals.
