Attachment notice issued to ASHA workers protesting on the Secretariat steps demanding a salary hike

The attachment notice has come as a heavy blow to the ASHA workers protesting on the Secretariat steps demanding a salary hike. Palode resident Anita Kumari now faces the risk of losing her home if she fails to repay her loan within seven days. Kerala Bank issued the attachment notice after she defaulted on a loan of ₹2 lakh.

Anita Kumari had a home to return to after spending her days ensuring the health and well-being of the community. Despite her meager income, the only solace she had was her secure home. Now, she is uncertain whether she will have a place to live. If she fails to repay, Kerala Bank will seize her house in a week. With interest included, the outstanding loan amount has risen to ₹2,82,000 since it was taken in 2021.

It is not just the Kerala Bank loan; she has also defaulted on a loan from the Agricultural Development Bank. Her husband, who works in construction in the Gulf, is unable to send enough money. To make matters worse, one of their three children is battling cancer. Struggling through extreme hardships, Anita Kumari joined the protest in hopes of securing a better income. Many others participating in the protest have similar heartbreaking stories.
