Indian Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI) will protest on Monday, August 9, against Twitter India over the ‘temporary suspension’ of party leader Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter account. The protest will be carried out at 5.30 pm. Releasing an official announcement, the Youth Congress condemned Twitter’s action of locking his account and announced that they will be protesting against this outside the social media platform’s office on Monday.

Apart from the Youth Congress’ protest outside Twitter’s office, Congress’s student wing– National Students Union of India (NSUI) will hold a demonstration near the Parliament area. Twitter had on Friday taken down Rahul Gandhi’s tweet that revealed the identity of the relatives of a rape and murder victim in Delhi. The victim was a minor. The Congress on August 7 said that the Twitter account of party leader Rahul Gandhi has been temporarily suspended and he will stay connected through other social media platforms and continue to raise the voice of people. Congress leaders have also alleged that Rahul Gandhi’s Twitter handle was suspended under pressure from the central government. The NCPCR had written to Twitter regarding Gandhi’s tweet disclosing the victim’s family, which is in violation of the POCSO Act. The official Twitter handle of the Indian National Congress notified that due process was being followed to restore it back. Rahul Gandhi had met the family members of the victim and local people. He tweeted a picture with the girl’s parents wherein he demanded justice for the victim’s family.
