Do not make appointments to Waqf Boards, and do not make any changes to the properties,” says the interim order of the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court has issued an interim order stating that no appointments should be made to Waqf Boards. The court also restrained any changes to Waqf properties, directing that the current status of the properties must be maintained.

The central government has been given one week to respond. The Centre informed the court that no appointments of new members will be made for the time being. The Supreme Court further stated that only five petitions related to the Waqf Act can be considered.

Although 73 petitions were submitted before the court, it clarified that it is not feasible to consider a large batch of petitions. Since many of them raise similar issues, only the five most important petitions will be taken up for consideration. The court also said that the petitioners themselves can decide which five petitions should be prioritized.
