Chennai: The Election Commission has dismissed the Bahujan Samaj Party’s (BSP) request to ban the use of an elephant symbol on the flag of actor Vijay’s Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam. The Commission clarified that political parties are not required to seek their permission or approval for flag designs.
The Commission further stated that it is the responsibility of the respective parties to ensure that the flag design complies with the rules. It also mentioned that Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam has not yet applied for an official party symbol, and only after that can a temporary symbol be assigned.
BSP National General Secretary Satish Chandra Mishra had filed the complaint with the Election Commission, pointing out the use of the elephant on TVK’s flag. Vijay had unveiled the party flag at an event in Chennai on August 22. He also stated that the meaning behind the flag and the party’s policies would be explained at a future state conference.
