Thiruvananthapuram: Ramesh Chennithala stated that everyone in the Congress has decided to move forward together and remains united. He clarified that the party’s high command has not issued any special directives on any matter. Chennithala also emphasized that he and opposition leader V. D. Satheesan are on the same page.
Commenting on CPI(M) leader E. P. Jayarajan, Chennithala remarked that he was glad to know Jayarajan is still active through his criticism. He added that Jayarajan is a good friend of his.
Regarding Shashi Tharoor, Chennithala said he was unaware of Tharoor’s latest remarks but noted that the high command had not issued any special instructions in response to them.
Chennithala also addressed the case of Siddharthan, a student whose death he claimed was a murder. He stated that the incident was orchestrated by SFI members and that the Anti-Ragging Squad had recorded statements from 97 people. According to the CBI report, the student was brutally assaulted by a group. However, the accused students, who had been debarred, later approached the High Court.
Chennithala described the Single Bench ruling as shocking and expressed dismay over the justification that the assault was meant for disciplining. He questioned how lightly the court had evaluated the matter.
He further stated that the High Court verdict has set a dangerous precedent for students in Kottayam. As a citizen, he asserted his right to criticize the ruling and condemned the police and university authorities for allegedly protecting the accused. He added that it is now clear how politically influential these individuals are.
