Goa Government to allow cannabis to be grown in the state for medicinal purposes only

The Goa government is now mulling over a bill to allow cannabis to be grown in the state for medicinal purposes only. According to a report by TOI, the proposal by the health department had been ascertained by the law department.

CM Pramod Sawant recently also said that he is also looking towards legalizing the cultivation of marijuana as an industry. However, no decision has been taken yet by the health department. He said, “Two to three states have allowed growing of cannabis… but we have not decided on it yet. I don’t think we will be allowing the growing of cannabis in the state.” Not only this, Law Minister Nilesh Cabral told TOI that the crops would be only purchased by the pharmaceutical industry. Also, recently, India voted in favor of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs to reclassify cannabis and not have the name on the ‘most strict’ drug list.
