HMPV Cases in India Rise to Two, Confirms Karnataka Health Department

The number of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) cases in India has risen to two, confirmed by the Karnataka Health Department. The second case was reported while nationwide monitoring of respiratory diseases is underway.

Both confirmed cases involve children, and the Health Ministry has stated that further surveillance activities will continue. The two patients confirmed with HMPV have no history of international travel, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Earlier this morning, the first case of HMPV in India was reported in an 8-month-old baby in Bengaluru. The Health Department confirmed that the child has no travel background, and investigations are ongoing to identify the source of the infection.
