Phone Tapping Controversy: Congress Calls for Removal of DGP Rashmi Shukla

The Election Commission has been asked by Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole to remove Director General of Police Rashmi Shukla from her position before the November 20 assembly elections. Patole cited concerns about maintaining fairness and transparency in the election process, arguing that Shukla’s influence could compromise these principles.

Congress has previously submitted letters on September 24 and October 4, demanding her transfer. They reiterated this request during an Election Commission visit to Mumbai on September 27. Patole alleges that Shukla directed police officials to file cases against opposition leaders and exert undue pressure on them. The Congress leader also pointed out past controversies surrounding Shukla, including allegations of phone tapping and filing cases against opposition members.
