HMPV Detected in India: 8-Month-Old Baby Infected

The first case of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in India has been confirmed in Bengaluru. The infection was detected in an 8-month-old baby, who is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

Doctors have reported that the child has no history of foreign travel, and investigations are ongoing to determine the source of the infection. It is yet to be confirmed if the strain is the Chinese variant. The infection was identified through tests conducted in the private hospital’s laboratory.

The Karnataka Health Department has stated that samples have been collected from the child, and further testing will continue.
