Health department started campaign against dengue

With the onset of monsoon, the Health Department on Thursday launched a campaign against waterborne diseases in various areas of the district under the Punjab Government’s Mission Fateh program to make people aware of the importance of cleanliness in homes and surrounding areas.

Teams of anti-larval cells of the Health Department, led by epidemiologist Dr. Satish Kumar, detected dengue larvae at 12 locations in the city. Members of the Anti Laver Cell conducted inspections at Mehanga Singh Colony, Golden Colony and Deep Nagar. During the checking, the teams visited 147 homes and examined 52 air coolers and 392 waste containers.

Dr. Satish Kumar said that he held detailed talks with the people during which he informed them that these places can act as breeding ground for mosquitoes to spread dengue, malaria and other diseases. He said that the objective of this campaign was to identify sensitive places for the production of mosquito larvae.
