Iconic Industrialist Ratan Tata Passes Away

Mumbai: Rathan Tatta, the former chairman of the Tata Group and a prominent businessman, has passed away. He was 86 years old. He died last night at 11.30 pm while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai following an age-related illness. He was admitted to the hospital on Monday.

He was born in December 1937 in Mumbai to Naval Tata and Suni Tata. Ratan Tata is a businessman who created a revolution in the car manufacturing sector in the country. He is the chairman of Tata Trust.

He graduated with a B.Sc in Architecture from Cornell University, USA. He started as an employee of Tata Steel Limited from 1961. In 1991, JRD took over from Tata as the Chairman of the Tata Group. He played a key role in the growth of the Tata Group and remained in this position for 21 years.

He is chairman emeritus of Tata Sons and came back as the interim chairman in 2016 after Cyrus Mistry was ousted as the chairman of the Tata Group. In 2017, N. Chandrasekaran remained in this position till he was made chairman. The country honored him with Padma Bhushan in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2008. Apart from industry, he was also active in philanthropy. He is single.
