IIT-Madras lecturer found dead on campus

Police on Thursday night recovered the charred body of a young man who was working as a guest lecturer and project coordinator of IIT-Madras from a hockey stadium located on the campus. The victim has been identified as Unni Krishnan Nair. He was working as a guest lecturer cum research scholar at IIT Madras.

Preliminary investigation based on circumstantial evidence suggests that it could be a case of suicide as police have found a suicide note from one of his books in his room. Nair was a native of Kerala. Sources said that some students found the body near some bushes by the hockey field inside the campus at around 8 pm on Thursday. The information was passed on to the Kotturpuram police who rushed to the spot. The body was sent to the Royapettah Government Hospital for post mortem. Unni Krishnan Nair, whose father works with ISRO, returned to the campus on Thursday morning from Kerala. No suspicious materials were found near his body. Police have registered a case and a probe is on to find the cause of death. Police said that the skin on the deceased’s face as well as on some other parts of the body was partially burnt. A senior police officer said that they had not found any suspicious materials at the spot where the body was found.
