Karnataka to administer 5 lakh Covid-19 jabs daily from September 1: CM Bommai

The Karnataka government plans to administer five lakh Covid-19 vaccine shots a day starting September 1. Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday announced the state’s plans to inoculate half a million people a day to reach the set target of inoculating Karnataka’s total population eligible for Covid shots.

The announcement comes days after Basavaraj Bommai met Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya during his recent Delhi trip. The CM briefed Mandaviya on Karnataka’s vaccination plan and requested the Union government to supply the requisite doses. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has said more than 160,000 vaccine doses against the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) has been administered as a part of its “Lasikaa Mela” (vaccination fair) in Bengaluru. Under the Lasikaa Mela, which was launched on Friday, the BBMP had set a target of administering 125,000 doses across eight zones. However, the civic body collectively managed to administer a total of 164,787 doses. Last week, Karnataka, in a trial mode, vaccinated five lakh people in a day to check the logistics and glitches during the process. Meanwhile, the BBMP has started vaccination mela in Bengaluru to reach the target of 1.25 lakh vaccine doses per day.
