Customs officials in Kochi have recorded the statement of Fazil Farid, the third accused in the gold smuggling case, through a phone call. According to customs officials, Fazil is currently in Dubai. She is a native of Kodungalur Moonanupedika in Thrissur district.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) court has sent accused Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair on a 14-day judicial remand in the Kerala gold smuggling case. Both will then be sent to quarantine centers. Swapna Suresh will be placed at the Quarantine Center in Thrissur District and Sandeep Nair at the Quarantine Center at Karukutty in Angamaly.

Earlier, Swapna Suresh and Sandeep Nair, accused in the gold smuggling case, were arrested by the NIA team from Bengaluru. Swapna’s family members were also detained. Both were absconding since the name came up in this case. Minutes before the arrest of both, Kerala Police Chief Loknath Behera formed a special team to help the NIA and the Customs Department.

At the same time, BJP President JP Nadda on Sunday took a dig at Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Kerala gold smuggling case and alleged that he hid the data related to Kovid-19. Nadda also said that the leftist government of Kerala is incompetent and corrupt and believes in violence.

Explain that the customs department seized 30 kg of gold worth Rs 15 crore at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on July 5. It was hidden in the diplomatic consignment. In this case, on Friday, the NIA filed an FIR against Swapna Suresh, Sarith Kumar, Sandeep Nair of Thiruvananthapuram, and Fazil Farid of Ernakulam. He has been charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
