Lok Sabha Election 2024; Polling for fifth phase Lok Sabha elections begins

Polling for the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections today. 49 constituencies in six states and two Union Territories will go to the polling booth today. 14 seats in UP and 13 seats in Maharashtra and 5 seats in Bihar. Rajnath Singh (Lucknow), Piyush Goyal (Mumbai North), Smriti Irani (Amethi), Rahul Gandhi (Rae Bareli) and Omar Abdullah (Baramulla) are prominent among the contestants this time.

Voting will be held today in 14 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Maharashtra, seven in Bengal, five in Bihar, five in Odisha, three in Jharkhand, and one each in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. In the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections, this is the phase in which voting is conducted in the least number of constituencies. A total of 695 candidates are seeking the mandate this time. Voting will start at 7 am.

In 2019, the BJP won 32 of the 49 constituencies that are going to polls today. Out of these 12 constituencies, BJP has won three times in a row. RaeBareli is the only constituency where the Congress won a hat-trick. Other seats are held by Shiv Sena, LJP, SP, Trinamool Congress and BJD.
