Navjot Singh Sidhu to meet CM Charanjit Singh Channi for talks

Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi has invited Navjot Singh Sidhu for talks on Thursday amid political upheaval in the Punjab Congress. Sidhu will meet CM Channi at 3 pm in Chandigarh. The chief minister had said that differences over these issues can be resolved through talks.

Navjot Singh Sidhu took to Twitter to inform about the latest development. “Chief Minister has invited me for talks…will reciprocate by reaching Punjab Bhawan, Chandigarh at 3:00 PM today, he is welcome for any discussions!,” he said in a tweet. Sidhu resigned on Tuesday just two months after being appointed to the post. Hours later, four leaders of the Punjab Congress also quit from their respective posts “in solidarity with” Sidhu. Channi had reached out to Sidhu to discuss his objections on Wednesday afternoon. He had also sent state ministers Pargat Singh and Amrinder Singh Raja Warring to meet the former state Congress chief, The Tribune reported. Sidhu has been reportedly upset about changes made to the Punjab Cabinet and appointments to the state administration. Party leaders said that Sidhu was disappointed after Sukhjinder Randhawa was given the home portfolio and made the deputy chief minister, according to reports. Sidhu was also upset about the inclusion of Rana Gurjit Singh in the Punjab Cabinet. He was accused in a sand mining scam, following which he quit former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh’s Cabinet in 2018. Sidhu has remained confined to his home ever since he resigned.
