Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated an underground tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir. This tunnel will now become a major corridor for military movement into Pakistan. The Z-Mor tunnel, also known as the Sonamarg Tunnel in Jammu and Kashmir, is mainly for military purposes. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah stood to the left of Prime Minister Modi as the Sonamarg Tunnel was inaugurated by cutting the red ribbon. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha were also present at the inauguration ceremony.
Located in the beautiful Ganderbal district, the Z-Mor Tunnel will enhance connectivity between Srinagar and Sonamarg. It provides an all-weather route for commuters. Modi travelled through the Sonamarg Tunnel after the inauguration.
He inspected the tunnel and took detailed information about its route map and construction activities. The Prime Minister interacted with the officials and construction workers who worked meticulously under the most difficult conditions for the construction of this tunnel. This is one of the major road construction projects in Jammu and Kashmir estimated to cost US$ 17.5 billion. There are 31 major such projects underway in Kashmir.
