More shocking information is now coming out of Bangladesh after former Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina sought refuge in Modi’s India in a military helicopter following death threats to people in her own country. Even though Sheikh Hasina has left the country, riots are raging in Bangladesh.
135 people have been killed in the country in the last 24 hours. The protesters ransacked houses including those of ministers. President Muhammad Shahabuddin announced the dissolution of the country’s parliament. The President has also given permission to form an interim government. The interim government will be formed with military support.
Protesters broke into Gana Bhavan in Dhaka and looted everything they could get their hands on. This includes everything from poultry to furniture that was in the residence. Biryani, which was cooked and stored in the residence, was also taken inside by the protesters. Footage of protesters occupying the residence is widely circulated on social media.
Protesters who entered the Prime Minister’s residence, which is the most secure facility in the country, are seen taking many items. Television, chairs, tables etc. were stolen from the residence. In the footage, some people can be seen eating while sitting in the residence. Others are seen lying on the bed and munching on chicken. The protestors also ate food items, including biryani, kept in the kitchen and fridge.
Protesters also reached the bedrooms of Gana Bhavan. Protesters lay on the Prime Minister’s bed. Footage of one taking Sheikh Hasina’s sari and the other a suitcase also surfaced. Protesters vandalized pictures of Sheikh Hasina at the residence. Meanwhile, the statue of Sheikh Hasina’s father and freedom struggle hero Mujibur Rahman was smashed with a hammer. The Dhanmondi and Dhaka offices of Hasina’s party, the Awami League, were set on fire. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s house was also attacked. Police headquarters in Dhaka were also attacked.
Meanwhile, the protesters are celebrating Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and leaving the country. In the footage, people gathered in the capital, Dhaka, waving flags and dancing. Protesters say they have got freedom. “I came here to enjoy my freedom, my country is free again,” responded the 17-year-old student.
There are scenes of protesters shaking hands with soldiers and expressing their joy. Addressing the nation after the Prime Minister’s resignation, Army Chief Waqar Uz Zaman announced that an interim government would be formed in the country. At least 20 people were reportedly killed on Monday alone. The month-long protest against reservation in government posts turned into a massive conflict.
Sheikh Hasina’s plane took off from Hindon Air Base in Ghaziabad. According to a news agency, the C-130J aircraft of the Bangladesh Air Force left here at 9 am. It is reported that the flight has moved to the next destination. However, information about whether Hasina is on this flight and where the flight is going is not clear.
An earlier report said that Sheikh Hasina will remain in India until she gets permission to stay in Britain. After resigning, she left the country in a military plane and landed at Ghaziabad Hindon air base in UP on her way to London.
BSF is on high alert in the India-Bangladesh border areas following the Bangladesh riots. There is a 4096 km border between India and Bangladesh. A high-level team led by Acting Director General of BSF Daljit Singh Chaudhary visited the border areas and assessed the situation.
Meanwhile, the central government today held an all-party meeting to explain the situation in Bangladesh. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar explained the situation in the meeting. He briefed the leaders about the situation in Bangladesh and the steps taken by the Indian government. Apart from S Jaishankar, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also attended the meeting. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who fled the country following the riots in Bangladesh, remains in Delhi. Today it will be clear where Sheikh Hasina will go.
Sheikh Hasina landed at the Hindon air force base in Delhi at around 6 pm yesterday. The Cabinet Committee on Security held a meeting under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister last night to assess the situation. Bangladeshi media reports that she will stay in India until political asylum is secured in Britain. Sheikh Khasina, who came to Delhi, met her daughter Saima Wajed. Saima met Sheikh Hasina at the Hindon air base. Saima is the WHO Regional Director in Delhi. Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajib Wajed stated that she will no longer enter Bangladesh politics.
Hasina entered India after resigning as Prime Minister. The eviction comes in the context of a popular uprising against the Prime Minister. Sheikh Hasina, who is currently in India, may remain in India until she gets political asylum in another country. 76-year-old Sheikh Hasin has come to India with his sister Rahana. Rahana’s daughter Tulip Siddique is a British Member of Parliament. Rahana also holds British citizenship. No confirmation has been received from the UK regarding the granting of political asylum to Hasina.
Sheikh Hasina’s son Sajeeb Wasid said that she is resigning after transforming Bangladesh into a developing country. When Hasina came to power, Bangladesh was seen by everyone as a failed country. Today it is one of the growing countries in Asia.
National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has met Sheikh Hasina. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi discussed the situation with Jaishankar.
At the same time, India started making moves to secure the India-Bangladesh borders. West Bengal Governor said that the situation is under control. CV Ananda Bose said. He stated that a high-powered committee has been formed at Raj Bhavan to monitor the situation 24 hours a day. The India-Bangladesh border at Petrapol has been closed.
People are being stopped 500 meters away from the border and sent back. Only Indian lorry drivers are allowed to enter here. India has suspended all train services to Bangladesh. India also suspended flight services to Dhaka for 30 hours. More than 4 lakh people are on the streets in Bangladesh. It is not said that the riots are completely under control. Army chief Waqar us Zaman has appealed to the people for some forgiveness. He had promised yesterday that the interim government will come soon.
