Second Phase of Voting Begins in Jammu and Kashmir

The second phase of polling for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly has begun. 27.78 lakh people will exercise their right to vote in 26 constituencies of six districts. 239 candidates are in the fray. 3502 polling stations have been prepared in all 26 constituencies. About 13,000 polling officers are assigned here.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Apni Party leader Altaf Bukhari, BJP state president Ravinder Raina and Congress leader Tariq Hamid are the prominent people who are seeking popular vote at this stage. Security arrangements have been beefed up in the state ahead of the elections. Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Srinagar, Ganderbal and Budgam are among the polling places today.

The first phase of the election was held in Jammu on 18th of this month. 61.13 percent polling was recorded in the first phase. The third phase of voting will be held on October 1. The counting of votes will take place on the eighth.
