Enforcement said that Swampan came home with Sivankar to see an accountant with Rs 30 lakh. This was informed by the accountant Venugopal during questioning. This was revealed in the explanation given in the High Court against Sivashankar’s anticipatory bail application.
Shiva Shankar and Swapna came to see him with money in the bag. When he was reluctant to deal with that money he was misleading the Swapna that it was from an honest source. According to the enforcement report, Venugopal had instructed them to keep the money in a locker. The announcement was made in the presence of Shivasankar. Venugopal is an accountant with over 20 years of experience with Sivashankar. Shivashankar has also revealed to the probe team that he was asked to help Swapna. According to him, Venugopal took the locker to SBI for the Swapna.
Enforcement filed an affidavit on Wednesday against the anticipatory bail. The investigation is ongoing and may require questioning in custody. According to the affidavit, Shivshankar may not have been unaware of Swapna’s gold smuggling.
Meanwhile, in the NIA case related to gold smuggling, M. Shivshankar’s anticipatory bail application will be considered by the court today. The anticipatory bail applications filed in the High Court in the Customs and Enforcement cases have been adjourned till tomorrow.
