Vice-chancellors boycott conference called by Tamil Nadu Governor

Ooty: A setback for Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. The conference called by the Governor in Ooty was boycotted by the Vice Chancellors of various universities. The VCs and acting VCs of universities under the state will not attend the conference. The Governor called the conference with the aim of restoring control over universities in Tamil Nadu following the setback of the Supreme Court verdict.

Vice-chancellors of 19 government universities, 9 private universities and 3 central universities in Tamil Nadu have been invited to attend the conference. The vice-chancellors of government universities have completely boycotted the conference. Some vice-chancellors of private universities will also not attend.

Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi has been hosting the Vice Chancellors’ Conference in Ooty for the last three years. This is the fourth year that the Vice Chancellors’ Conference is being held at the Governor’s Mansion in Ooty. The conference will be held over two days. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar will attend the conference today.

On the 8th, the Supreme Court had passed the 10 bills that were unfairly withheld by Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. The Supreme Court passed the 10 bills that were submitted for approval by the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The Supreme Court also said that the Tamil Nadu Governor’s decision to postpone the bills for the President’s approval was illegal and wrong. The court’s observation is in an important judgment on the powers of governors.
