Delhi: 283 Indians who arrived through fake agencies and were caught in a cybercrime network have been brought back. They arrived at the Myanmar-Thailand border under false job offers. The embassies of Myanmar and Thailand took the lead in rescuing them. They were brought back in an IAF flight. The Ministry of External Affairs has said that people should be vigilant against fake agencies.
It is learnt that around 540 Indians who were trapped in a cybercrime network by offering fake jobs have been rescued. Of these, 283 citizens have been repatriated. The rest will be brought back by a second flight from Mae Sot today.
The citizens were lured with fake job offers and handed over to fake call centers involved in cyber fraud in Thailand, Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar. The Indian embassies in Myanmar and Thailand have repatriated them in coordination with the local authorities, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
The government has warned of such rackets targeting Indians with fake job offers. Last December, an agent who duped several Indian youths in this way was arrested in Hyderabad.
