Adult film case: Raj Kundra’s police custody extended till July 27

The police custody of businessman Raj Kundra , and his business associate Ryan Thorpe, arrested in a pornographic films case, was on Friday extended till July 27. On Tuesday, a Mumbai court has sent him to the custody of Mumbai police till today.

Kundra and Thorpe, who were arrested on July 19 in the case related to the alleged creation of pornographic films and publishing them through some apps, were produced before the Magistrate Court at the end of their earlier three-day police remand on Friday. Police sought an extension of their custody to probe the matter further. The police had earlier told the court that the 45-year-old businessman was gaining financially from the illegal activity of making and selling pornographic material. The police had claimed they have seized Kundra’s mobile phone and its contents need to be scrutinised and also his business dealings and transactions have to be looked into. According to reports, Kundra, husband of Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty, was “actually running” the mobile application which streamed these videos, overseeing the content as well financial dealings, Mumbai Police said on Tuesday. Police said Kundra’s Mumbai-based company, Viaan Industries, was linked to the UK-based Kenrin Pvt Ltd, which has been under the police scanner since February this year, when they first registered an FIR in the case and arrested nine persons.

According to a report, Shilpa Shetty will not be served a summon in the Raj Kundra case as was being speculated in the last few days as she is one of the directors of Viaan Industries while the police investigation is probing into Kenrin and owner of the HotShots app, where the alleged porn content was published. Kenrin is a production company owned by Kundra’s brother-in-law Pradeep Bakshi, who has also been named as a wanted accused in the case.
