Ambedkar Jayanti 2021

Dr B R Ambedkar Jayanti 2021

Every year, April 14 is observed as Ambedkar Jayanti to celebrate Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s birthday. This day is also observed as Equality Day in India. Often hailed as The Father of the Indian Constitution, for being instrumental in drafting it, he was born in 1891.

Fondly called Babasaheb, BR Ambedkar stood firmly for the rights of Dalits and untouchables. His life was spent fighting against inequalities, bringing social reforms and propagating progressive ideologies. He wanted to create a modern India where there would be no prejudice based on caste or any other reason; where women and communities subjected to backwardness for centuries would enjoy equity of economic and social rights. President Ram Nath Kovind urged fellow citizens to ‘imbibe his ideals in our lives by learning from his life and ideas and contribute towards building a strong and prosperous India’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on his 130th birth anniversary. “I bow to Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar on #AmbedkarJayanti. His struggle to bring the marginalized sections of the society into the mainstream will continue to be an example for every generation,” PM Narendra Modi tweeted. Ambedkar Jayanti is celebrated as a public holiday across India since 2015.
