Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Reddy’s sister launches party in Telangana

YS Sharmila launched her political outfit 'YSR Telangana party'.

Andhra Pradesh CM Jagan Mohan Reddy’s sister YS Sharmila launched her political outfit ‘YSR Telangana party’ on her father YS Rajashekhar Reddy’s birth anniversary on Thursday. YS Sharmila’s outfit bares virtually the same name which is currently headed by her brother and CM Jagan Mohan Reddy in Andhra Pradesh, named after the siblings’ late father & former Andhra Pradesh CM.

During the launch, Sharmila declared that welfare, self-reliance and equality will be the new party’s three pillars of agenda. Addressing a gathering of party activists after unveiling her party flag, Sharmila said that her party will work to reserve 50% seats in assembly for women. She also said that people belonging the Backward Classes will be given reservation on the basis of population. Calling her father YS Rajasekhara Reddy a symbol of the welfare schemes in the country, Sharmila alleged that chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao does not know what welfare is. Ms Sharmila said she would bring ‘Rajanna Rajyam’ to Telangana, and would take forward the welfare promises made and fulfilled by her father. She said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao had failed to fulfill promises and added that she would go on a padyatra in 100 days to interact with people and understand their problems.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has distanced himself from his sister’s political foray into Telangana even before her first public meeting in Khammam three months ago. Ms Sharmila’s mother, Y S Vijayalakshmi, who had stood by her son when he launched his political party after moving away from the Congress, was now by the side of her daughter.
