BJP leader’s house set on fire in Manipur for supporting the Waqf Bill

A BJP leader’s house was set on fire in Manipur for supporting the Waqf Bill. The attack targeted the residence of Mohammed Askar Ali, the BJP Minority Morcha President. The incident occurred on Sunday evening in Lilong, Thoubal district.

There was a massive protest in Manipur on Sunday related to the Waqf Amendment Bill. Around five thousand protesters gathered in the National Highway 102 area in Lilong. Despite heavy security in place, the protesters managed to breach the area.

In view of the protest, strict security measures had been implemented in various Muslim-majority areas across the state since Sunday morning. Reports suggest that it was during the protest that the BJP leader’s house was set on fire.

On Saturday, Askar Ali had posted on social media in support of the Waqf Amendment. Following this, during the protest on Sunday, his house in Lilong, Thoubal district, was reportedly attacked. Shortly after the arson, Askar Ali posted an update on Facebook changing his stance on the Waqf Amendment Bill.
