Crown Gifted by PM Narendra Modi to Kali Devi Stolen from Bangladesh’s Jessoreswari Temple

The crown of Kali Devi, gifted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his 2021 visit to Bangladesh, has been stolen from the Jessoreswari Temple. The crown, made of gold and silver, was reported missing on Thursday afternoon.

It was first noticed by temple cleaning staff, who discovered that the crown was missing from the Kali idol. The Jessoreswari Temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas, located in Ishwaripur, Shaktipur. Originally built in the 12th century by a person named Anari, it featured 100 doors. The temple was later renovated in the 13th century by Lakshman Sen and rebuilt in the 16th century by Raja Pratapaditya.

During his visit, Modi had also promised the construction of a community hall at the temple. The theft has raised concerns about the security of the historic site.
