BJP state president K Surendran said that the government was persuaded to skip the assembly session because of the weight on its lap. Surendran also asked whether the government did not know about the spread of the disease on July 10, when the government issued summons to convene the assembly session, or whether 40 MLAs were over 65 years of age.

The CPM fears a no-confidence motion. Surendran said he was concerned that the constituent parties would not be ready to justify the gold smuggling if the no-confidence motion was discussed. He accused the chief minister of evading criticism.

Surendran added that the government was persuaded to skip the meeting as it did not have the wherewithal to justify the clear role of the Chief Minister’s office in the gold smuggling case.
