The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids on institutions in Bengaluru linked to U.S. billionaire George Soros. The searches took place at the offices of the Open Society Foundations (OSF) and some affiliated organizations in Bengaluru. According to official sources, the raids were part of an investigation into foreign exchange violations.
Authorities stated that the searches were conducted under the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) and that OSF, along with certain international human rights organizations, was under scrutiny. The case alleges that OSF received Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and some beneficiaries misused these funds in violation of FEMA guidelines.
OSF has not yet responded to ED’s actions. The foundation began its operations in India in 1999. George Soros, a Hungarian-American political activist and businessman, has previously faced controversy over his investments in India and alleged activities deemed against national interests.
