Senior Congress leader VM Sudheeran has resigned from the AICC. Sudheeran resigned from the AICC after resigning from the Political Affairs Committee. The letter of resignation was sent to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi.

Sudheeran had on several occasions expressed dissatisfaction with the High Command’s non-intervention in organizational issues in Kerala. According to the report, Sudheeran had stated in the letter that he had resigned after the High Command did not intervene. While Sudheeran had taken up cudgels against Mullapally’s successor K Sudhakaran, his latest move has caught the leadership unawares. The senior Congress leader was unhappy with the way Tariq Anwar had called off his meeting with him on Sunday evening. The High Command directed AICC General Secretary in charge of Kerala Tariq Anwar to meet Sudheeran. In a letter addressed to the Congress High Command, Sudheeran has raised serious allegations against Sudhakaran citing that he has dug the party’s grave. Sudheeran complained that the state leadership was taking unilateral decisions without consulting him. Sudheeran said that despite the change of leadership in the state Congress, it did not get the expected benefits. Instead of utilizing the golden opportunity meted out to them, both Sudhakaran and Opposition Leader V D Satheesan have fallen into the hands of the factional leaders, felt Sudheeran. Sudheeran, who resigned from the KPCC Political Affairs Committee, also resigned from the AICC as efforts by the Congress leadership continued to persuade him.
