Financial aid for Wayanad disaster victims has been delayed for four months

The ₹300 financial aid announced for landslide disaster victims has been stalled for the past four months. Although the government had issued an order to extend the assistance, the funds have not been distributed. When the opposition leader raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly, the Revenue Minister responded that the amount could only be extended if the disaster was declared a severe calamity.

The ₹300 daily aid was provided to two adult members of families affected by the landslide disaster who had lost their livelihoods. Initially granted for three months, strong demands led to an extension for nine months. An official order regarding this extension was also issued. However, the opposition leader highlighted in the Assembly that the financial aid had not been disbursed.

Revenue Minister K. Rajan stated that, as per the law, the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has the power to provide financial aid for three months in the event of such a disaster, and further extensions are only possible if it is declared a severe calamity.
