While entire Kerala is praying for Arjun, a family in Alappuzha is equally saddened. Babu and his family from Paravur are waiting with tears for their son who is missing in the sea. Vishnu, who was working on the ship, went missing while working. Even after 12 days of the incident, there is no sign of the youth. Two families in Kerala are reeling as they don’t know what happened to their missing sons.
Vishnu has been missing since the 17th of this month. Vishnu was working as a trainee on board SSI Resolute of Chennai-based Denza Marine Cargo Shipping Company. The accident happened when the ship was on its way from Odisha to China. Vishnu’s family is disappointed that the investigation is going nowhere.
On the day of his disappearance, Vishnu was talking to his family from the phone of his colleague Arumukhan, a native of Tamil Nadu. The ship company authorities informed the family that Vishnu was missing on the next morning. Employees have a habit of reporting to the main office of the ship every day. Vishnu did not report on 18th. The company informed that Vishnu’s sandal was found on the deck during the inspection. Only a preliminary investigation was conducted based on the information provided by the ship company in the incident.
Vishnu’s father Babu responded that there was no official investigation into the incident. On the 17th, his son called him at seven o’clock. He told me that his net was dead and he was calling from his friend’s phone. The ship authorities said it went missing at 9.30 pm. But can’t believe it.
There has been no official investigation. His son went missing on the island of Malacca. The search was conducted only in its periphery. Babu also said that the government should intervene and conduct an effective investigation. When I first spoke to the authorities, they said that there was no need to contact the local authorities and that since it was an international matter, the local police would come down through the Indian Embassy and get the information. Father says that what was said yesterday is that the Indian Embassy needs to be pressured. Vishnu is a trainee viper on the cargo vessel SSI Resolute of Chennai-based Densai Marine Cargo Shipping Company. The family is worried about not getting any information about their son even after days of his disappearance.
At the same time, the rescue operation for Arjun has been completely abandoned. There are also reports that a naval team has returned from Shirur. The Navy team had reached here in the morning. The district administration had said that they would conduct an inspection in Gangavalipuzhha. But it didn’t happen. The Navy team went back to Karwar.
It is reported that there is no one in the area who is part of the rescue mission or part of the district administration. At present only two or three policemen are there. Efforts are underway to restore road traffic using JCB. Dredger from Thrissur is the way forward. But a decision regarding this will be made only after checking the underflow. It has been fourteen days since Arjun went missing. Arjun’s relatives are in Shirur. They had made it clear earlier that they would return only if they got any information. Arjun’s sister Anju said that she had lost hope. She stated that she hoped to continue the mission with ministerial intervention and would go to any extent to continue the mission.
