Swami Prakasananda passes away

Former head of Sivagiri Math Swami Prakashananda (99) passed away at the Varkala Sree Narayana Mission Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on Wednesday July 7. He was suffering from age-related health issues. The body will be laid to rest at Sivagiri Panchajanyam Auditorium and will be laid to rest at Sivagiri at 5 pm. The vedic scholar was revered by Sree Narayana Guru followers.

Swami Prakashananda was the President of Sivagiri Sreenarayana Dharmasangham Trust for a long time. He was president from 95–97 and from 2006 to 2016. He became General Secretary in 1970 and 1977. In his leadership, Sivagiri Brahma Vidyala was established. Sivagiri Brahma Vidyalaya was established when Prakashananda was the President. He was a celebration of the centenary celebration of Daivadasakam President Math pilgrimage to platinum. He was born in Piravanoor Kalatharady family. His name in ‘Purvashrama’ was Kumaran. He came to Sivagiri at the age of 23 as a disciple of Swami Sankarananda.  He completed his spiritual education under Swami Shakarananda who was then head of the Math. He took ‘Deeksha’ at the age of 35. Sivagiri Mutt is a revered spiritual centre established here by the renowned 20th century saint-social reformer Sree Narayana Guru.
