Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Manohar Joshi passed away

Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Shiv Sena leader Manohar Joshi passed away. He was 86 years old. He was undergoing treatment at PD Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai after suffering a heart attack two days ago. The last rites will take place at the crematorium ground in Dadar, Mumbai. Manohar Joshi was admitted to the hospital on February 21.

Manohar Joshi was born on December 2, 1937 in Mahad, Maharashtra. Graduated in Civil Engineering from Veeramata Jijabhai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mumbai. Joshi entered politics through the Rashtriya Swayamsevaka Sangh and later joined the Shiv Sena. As his organizational skills became known, he became one of the key leaders of the Shiv Sena in the 1980s.

Joshi became the Chief Minister of Maharashtra in 1995. It was through Joshi that the Shiv Sena government came to power for the first time in the state. The entry of the Joshi government was defeated by the Indian National Congress led by Sharad Pawar.
