There was a good voter turnout in the first phase of the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. By 6 PM, when polling concluded, 63% voter participation was recorded. A total of 24 constituencies were involved in this phase, with 8 constituencies from the Jammu region and 16 from the Kashmir region going to the polls today.
The BJP hailed the high voter turnout as a success of the Kashmir reorganization. A total of 219 candidates contested in the first phase, with 2.3 million eligible voters. Due to the backdrop of terrorist threats, heavy security was deployed at polling booths. No incidents of violence were reported during the elections.
