Kerala is not the same as before. Regardless of which authority displayed arrogance, and even in the absence of a leader to spearhead the movement, determined supporters have proven that change is possible. The re-edit controversy surrounding the film Empuraan stands as a testament to this. The re-edit of Empuraan marks a historic people’s revolution in Indian cinema, as public demand has successfully brought back a grand film—something unprecedented in India’s cinematic history.
Even members of the Censor Board were taken aback by this development. The re-edit process was completed at the Censor Board headquarters in Chitranjali Studio, Thiruvananthapuram. Notably, the censoring and re-editing were carried out on a holiday. Widespread protests and complaints about the film had emerged, even gaining traction at the national level.
