As Syria’s internal strife worsens, Israel has seized control of a section of Syrian territory in a swift operation. This includes the Golan Heights and adjacent lowlands bordering Israel. The Syrian-controlled areas in the Golan Heights are now under Israeli military control. Additionally, Israel has reportedly redrawn its borders to incorporate this newly occupied territory.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu officially announced to the world that the Israeli army has temporarily assumed control of the buffer zone in the Golan Heights.
Historical Background: This development stems from the 1974 disengagement agreement between Israel and Syria following conflicts with Arab nations. The agreement established defined borders and prohibited any unauthorized crossings. However, Israel now argues that the agreement has been nullified due to rebel forces taking over Syrian territories, prompting their military intervention.
