Israel has conducted airstrikes throughout Lebanon in response to Hezbollah firing two mortar shells into Israeli territory after a ceasefire was declared. The attacks targeted Hezbollah operatives and multiple rocket launch sites, according to a statement by the Israeli Defense Forces.
The escalation marks the first attack on Israel since the ceasefire between Israel and Iran-backed militant groups came into effect last week. The mortar shells were launched from portable launchers into the Mount Dov area of Israel.
Meanwhile, former U.S. President Donald Trump’s warning has sent shockwaves through the Middle East. Trump stated that if Hamas does not release all Israeli hostages by January 20, 2025, when he is set to assume office, the region will face dire consequences. This declaration has raised fears of renewed instability in Gaza and the broader Middle East.
